Understanding, Maintaining and Troubleshooting Heavy Duty Diesel Truck Emission Systems

Technicians will learn the theory behind reducing harmful emissions in heavy-duty truck diesel engines and the required effective maintenance and troubleshooting skills needed to meet federal and applicable state emissions testing laws.

Upon completing the class, technicians will have fully understood the diesel emission components used on heavy-duty diesel truck engines. Additionally, there will be specific training with an emphasis on the proper maintenance, troubleshooting and diagnosis of the following emission systems:

Training Topics:

  • Control Methods for CO, HC, PM, and NOx Emissions.
  • Engine Design Techniques for Emission Reduction.
  • Role of Fuel and Lubricant Related Technologies in Emission Control.
  • Exhaust Gas Management for Emission Control.
  • EGR Valve and Its Role in Emission Control.
  • Impact of Lubrication Oil on Emission Control in HD Diesel Engines.
  • Role of Crankcase Emission Control Devices in Reducing Emissions.
  • Use of DEF in Diesel Engine Exhaust Systems to Reduce Emissions.
  • The Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system
  • Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF)
  • Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC)
